  • FixHunt reports were missing almost all positions. The track was only recorded while the app was open on screen, but during a hunt the phone is in your pocket — an hour-long hunt could end up with a single point. The track is now recorded by the background service, just like the ordinary history.
  • FixA hunt report without recorded positions used to show a map of an area far from where the hunt actually took place. It now shows an explanation that no positions were recorded instead.

  • Fix”Here for” on the map now shows how long the person has really stayed in the same spot. The timer used to be reset by ordinary GPS noise — a few metres of drift was enough — and it also started over every time you opened the app, so someone who had been still for hours could show as ”Here for 17min”. The time is now calculated on the server from the full history, so small movements back and forth count as the same place.

  • ChangedThe app no longer asks for the activity recognition permission. It was used to tell whether you are moving, but Google counts it as a health permission. The same thing is now decided by the phone's motion sensor, which needs no permission at all — and which notices that you are walking even when you move so slowly that GPS cannot tell.
  • ImprovedDuring a hunt the app now saves battery while you sit still on your stand. Full resolution as long as you move, and a guaranteed position every two minutes when you are stationary — the party always sees where you are, but the phone no longer grinds the GPS for hours on the same spot.

The app appeared in the car but responded with an error as soon as it was opened, because one line of the app's setup sat in the wrong place and Android Auto therefore never got started with it.   • NewAndroid Auto now does far more than show where everyone is. You can save your current position as a marker straight from the car, see the group's saved places, read the group chat and reply with canned phrases, start and extend lone worker alarms, and see the group as pins on a map instead of a list. Everything is reached from a menu on the car screen.
  • NewAlarms now appear in the car. An alarm from the group is placed at the top of the car screen with the distance, and from there you can navigate to whoever raised it or stand the alarm down. Previously you could only send an alarm from the car, not receive one.
  • NewThe hunting module is available in the car: you can see how many are taking part, check in to and leave a stand, and read and send hunt messages with canned phrases such as At the stand and Shot fired. Driving to your stand is, after all, a car activity.
  • FixThe member list in the car works. It fetched positions from an address that did not exist, and stopped refreshing after the first attempt, so the screen ended up empty or frozen. The car screen now also trims long lists instead of failing outright when the group is large.

  • ChangedThe premium features are free of charge, and that is now stated clearly everywhere. Previously a price was shown with a struck-through figure beside it, which made it unclear whether anything had to be paid. The button is now called Order (free), and a feature you do not have reads Not activated rather than Not purchased. Ordering remains for one reason only: we want to know who is actually testing a feature, so we know what is being used and who to contact. No payment is taken and no card details are requested.

  • NewYou can now report content that does not belong in the app. Press and hold a message in the group chat or a direct conversation, or open a marker and choose Report. You pick a reason, can add your own description, and the report goes straight to us together with the content it concerns.
  • NewYou can also block individual members. Press and hold a person in the member list, or something they wrote, and choose Block. Their messages and markers then disappear for you, and the two of you can no longer send direct messages to each other. They are not told about it. The block applies only to you — their position on the map is unaffected, since that belongs to the group and is controlled by the group owner. Under Menu → Blocked members you can see who you have blocked and undo it whenever you like.

  • ChangedHow you update the app from now on: when a new version is available the app asks just as before, but instead of fetching and installing it itself it opens the download page in your browser. You tap the downloaded file to install it. One tap more than before. The reason is that doing it on its own required the right to install apps on your behalf — a far-reaching permission that Google in practice grants only to app stores. It is now gone, and it is also a step towards getting Geo-Harbor onto Google Play.

  • SecurityThe app no longer asks for permission to send text messages. The permission was left over from an early version of the lone worker alarm, which could have sent an SMS to three chosen numbers if the alarm went off. That feature has been disabled for a long time — Android no longer lets ordinary apps send text messages in the background — but the permission stayed in the app and showed up in the list of what Geo-Harbor has access to. Both the permission and the code behind it are now gone. The alarm still reaches the group exactly as before, through the app and as a push notification.

  • SecurityFrom this version the app is signed with our own security key. Until now it used the default key that ships with the development tools, which is identical for everyone — anyone could have built an app that looked like a genuine Geo-Harbor update. That is now fixed, and the change is also what makes it possible to get the app into Android Auto.
  • ChangedThe new key means this update cannot be installed on top of the version you already have. Android does not allow it when the key changes, and answers ”App not installed”. Uninstall Geo-Harbor first, then install again from geo-harbor.se. Your groups are not lost: sign in with the same email address as before and enter one of your group codes, and you will get a verification code by email — after that all your groups, your history and your ownership follow automatically to the new installation. This is a one-time step; future updates work as usual.
  • SecurityThe Android Auto component in the app has been updated to a newer version that fixes a known vulnerability (CVE-2024-10382).
  • FixSaved groups could disappear from the list after a reinstall. At startup the app asks the server whether each saved group still exists, and it read the answer ”you are not linked to this group” as ”this group no longer exists” — and then removed the group silently. The first answer in fact only means the installation needs to be linked to your account again. Groups are now kept, and the app shows a Sync button that fetches them back.

  • ChangedThe message ”Zoom in to show points of interest” has been removed. It sat on top of the map whenever you were zoomed out and said nothing you could not already see.
  • FixPlace names and roads in the Roads and place names layer looked blurry. The layer was first drawn to an image at a fixed resolution and then rescaled to the phone screen and to intermediate zoom steps — so the text was always slightly smeared, no matter how the outline was set. Lines and text are now drawn directly on screen and are sharp at every zoom level.

  • FixPlace names in the Roads and place names layer disappeared as you zoomed in. The text was so large that names collided with each other, and the map then drops them rather than drawing them on top of one another — it looked as if the names never finished loading. The text is now about a third smaller, and more localities and road names fit on screen.
  • ImprovedPlace names looked blurry. The white outline around the letters is drawn as a soft shadow, and it was set so wide that it became a haze around the text. The outline is now narrower and the letters are crisp.
  • ImprovedThe map remembers more of what you just looked at. Roads and names were kept for only one screen at a time, so panning back to where you were meant fetching it from the server again. Memory now holds roughly three screens, which makes panning and zooming back and forth noticeably faster. If you want the map with no waiting at all, even without coverage: download the area in advance under Map settings.

  • FixPlace names were never shown on the Map and Map dark base maps, or in the Roads and place names layer. The map data contained the names all along, but they were written in a format the app's map engine could not interpret, so it drew nothing. The names you did see came from the pre-rendered image maps such as OpenTopoMap — which is also why they ended up underneath the roads. The app now draws the names itself, on top of everything else.
  • FixIn built-up areas the roads in the Roads and place names layer could look like white blocks instead of lines: the white outline of major roads was drawn on top of the fine street grid beside them. The outlines are now drawn underneath, as they should be.

It draws roads, road names and place names on top of whichever map you have chosen — meant for satellite imagery and custom maps, which otherwise have neither roads nor names. The data is the same one the Map mode uses and lives on our own server, so no terms of use stand in the way. The layer is not shown on Map and Map dark, which already have all of it.
  • ImprovedPlace names are easier to read on Map and Map dark. Small localities were drawn in grey with a thin outline and disappeared into the background; they are now larger, darker respectively lighter, and have a clearer outline.
  • ChangedNo map layers are switched on from the start any more — the map starts clean and you choose what to show. Layers also got their own menu, just like the points of interest, with Select all and Clear all.
  • FixThe close button in the points of interest category menu showed the word ”close” instead of ”Close”.

  • FixWhen you share something to Geo-Harbor from another app, the keyboard no longer covers the comment field — the field and the send button move up so you can see what you are typing.
  • FixLone worker: when the person who raised the alarm acknowledges ”I am OK”, the group now gets the message immediately even with the app open, and the ongoing alarm goes silent on the recipients' phones.

  • NewThe server now receives and stores reports of inappropriate content, and emails them on immediately so they do not sit unnoticed. Reports are handled under a new tab in the admin panel, where they can be marked as resolved.
  • NewBlocks are handled on the server, not just in the app. That means a blocked member's messages and markers are filtered out before they are ever sent to your phone, and direct messages between you are stopped on the way in. Reinstalling the app therefore does not clear your blocks.

  • NewYou can now delete your account directly on the web, without having the app installed: geo-harbor.se/radera-konto. You enter your email address, get a one-time code and confirm — after that your membership, your location history, your markers with photos and your zones are removed. If you own a group where others remain, ownership passes to whoever joined first. The same function has been available inside the app; what is new is that it can be reached even if you have already uninstalled.
  • NewGeo-Harbor now has a published privacy policy at geo-harbor.se/integritetspolicy. It describes exactly what data the app collects, why, who can see it, how long it is kept and how to have it removed. It does not replace the user agreement in the app but complements it.

  • NewPoints of interest on the map: lean-to shelters, hunting stands, fire pits, picnic sites, viewpoints, drinking water, swimming spots, parking, fuel, pharmacies, defibrillators and more — 21 categories to pick freely from, sourced from OpenStreetMap. The data now lives on our own server instead of being fetched from an overloaded free service, so the points appear instantly instead of sometimes not at all.
  • ImprovedThe server's map data now updates itself. The base map and the points of interest are rebuilt automatically when they get old, and a fresh server builds its own map data on first start. This previously required manual steps, and a newly installed server got a blank map without anything saying so.

  • FixThe admin panel's track view could show tracks in a group where location sharing was turned off. Tracks a device recorded in another group were mistakenly listed under every group the device belonged to. The admin view now shows exactly the same tracks the group's own members see. The server had lost the ability to deliver mail directly to recipients' mail servers, and messages sat in the queue for days without anyone being told. Mail is now handed over to a server that is allowed to send outbound, and the remaining messages have gone through.
  • NewThe admin panel has a dedicated mail settings view: server, port, encryption, login and sender address can be changed while running, with a button to send a test email and see the server's reply directly. Previously, switching mail server required a code change all the way out to production.
